PR's

5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

Not a good day for me ... sometimes you have good races, sometimes bad. Today was a bad for me ... but the mark of a good athlete is to think about it, but not dwell on it, and move on.  So, I am moving on.  The course was super hard. I was running with my friend Merry.  The first  mile is uphill, then a short downhill of about 1/2 mile and then 1/2 uphill (these were about 6% grade hills - worth about 10-15secs) and then downhill the last mile.  I hit the first mile at 7:00, the second at 6:58, and then disaster struck.  I stopped to pee. I shouldn't have, I know I shouldn't have, I should have just pee'd my pants (TMI I know).  It was the toughest part of the race and I let myself get distracted.  I am angry with myself now.  I knew I wasn't going to PR, but I should of hung in there (pee and all) anyway.  Oh well ... thankfully, I don't make my living running.  My last mile (after pit stop) was 6:54, as I desperately tried to catch Merry (and more importantly, this woman that I have traded races with a few times).  They ran about 21:28 or so, I ran 22:03. I blew my 9th place streak - and fell to 10th.

2 mile wu/ 7+ mile cd with Merry.

Happy Sunday bloggers!

Bonnie! I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

From Bonnie on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 18:25:48 from 64.119.33.134

go ahead and laugh Burt ... it is ok ;-)

I am almost 48 (and got my AARP card in the mail the other day) and this is not new to me, getting old (and being a woman) is not for sissies.

From Barry on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 18:57:40 from 67.61.235.198

Sorry, Bonnie. I think you were distracted, stressed or you were not thinking straight. But that is okay because it is better to learn now than later on. I could be wrong. But, anyway nice job, you cold have been worse...

From Smooth on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 19:51:03 from 174.23.198.220

Umm, I don't know what to say about the "disaster". BUT, I think you ARE AWESOME! WOW! SO SPEEDY!!! I assume Merry knows/knew that she beat you by "accident"?

That is one tough 5K course and you should be proud of the excellent time and placing 2nd!!! WELL DONE, Bonnie! :)

From Bonnie on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 20:04:52 from 64.119.33.134

Smooth, you are too sweet. Merry knows the gory details, but a race is a race, she beat me fair and square.

From Snoqualmie on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 20:44:50 from 24.18.192.33

I'm so sorry you're disappointed. But I gotta tell ya... I looked at your placement and AG placement and was woo-hoo-ing away, and then read the first sentence of your report, and-- "huh?" So you're still firmly in place on the pedestal in my book. And a potty stop in the middle! Just remarkable.

From Bonnie on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 21:11:21 from 64.119.33.134

Thanks Sno ... I guess I expected a lot. I am not really that disappointed, just a little disappointed that I gave in to vanity instead of just going for the glory, ha ha ha ha.

My 10K time in January was two 21:45s back to back so I "should" have been sub 21 min for a 5K -- but, this was not the course for it ... and well ... things happen or should I say "pee happens" ;-).

From Tracy on Sun, Mar 21, 2010 at 21:35:10 from 67.175.121.130

I think your second sentence says it all. Forget about it. When's the next race?

From vinh on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 07:15:18 from 75.77.22.187

That's a real bummer Bonnie! I'm sure you could easily run a sub 21 5k. I always get paranoid about having to use the bathroom midrace. What was the time for 1st place in your age group?

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 09:33:24 from 68.103.242.46

This wasn't the course and it wasn't the day...you are wise to move on. I know how you feel about disappointment--and ugh when bathroom disaster strikes, well, what else can you do? I don't think I could bring myself to pee on myself so you had to stop! You will have redemption soon--no worries--keep your head up!

From Bonnie on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 09:41:02 from 64.119.33.134

hey Vinh - the woman I was chasing ended up running a 21:28. I will try again sometime soon, just to get this race out of my head ;-).

Hi April - as you get older you may not have a choice ;-). I haven't had this bad of a problem in a race in a long time, it must have been the hills it is a real issue when I run really really hard. Now everyone on the blog knows my secret problem, but at least it keeps Burt in giggles ;-).

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 11:08:17 from 24.8.167.243

Hey, when you gotta go, you gotta go. Like Sno, I was impressed with your time and placement and was then surprised by your first sentence. You still ran really fast. The slower time that you wanted is just from the stop.

Moving on now.

From Burt on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 11:26:11 from 98.177.220.145

Bonnie, think about it this way. If you mess yourself, you're going to be one of those people in the pictures that gets sent around to everyone's emails. You don't want that.

From Kim on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 12:34:25 from 67.199.180.90

I would love to get that time without a potty break! Great job running hero of mine!

From montelepsy on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 14:25:18 from 64.235.121.242

Are you too vain for running diapers? If not, then problem solved!

From allie on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 14:50:57 from 67.177.0.102

well done, bonnie. sounds like it was a rough day, but they happen. you always have a winning attitude.

moving on...to eugene! ;)

From CookieLegs on Mon, Mar 22, 2010 at 19:06:34 from 71.36.68.187

Bonnie, Just want to let you know that I think you are one of the most awesome runners on this blog!! Incredibly fast and talented!!

From Bonnie on Tue, Mar 23, 2010 at 08:01:45 from 64.196.95.2

Hi Mike, I am not too vain, but we'll see how much you like running with someone in pampers when you come out here!

Thanks Allie, when I get back from this trip I will be signing up for Eugene!

Cookielegs, you are too nice, you made me smile, thank you.

From MichelleL on Sat, Mar 27, 2010 at 01:00:07 from 67.41.226.109

Shoot. Well, you've learned something, and that's what most races are for. Having to pee in a 5k. . . you must have been HYDRATED!!!!
