PR's

5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

Trail run ... first one of 2014.  It was wonderful, for me.  Even the multitude of people on "my" trail did not get me down!  I saw my neighbor with her horses -- I saw huge families of hikers.  All got a happy new year from me.

Then, I got home, and within 15 mins Dean came home - from his trail run.  he said, "well, I got the first fall out of the way" - and showed me his hand.  It was bad, real bad.  We trudged up the hill to our neighbors (both are physicians) to see what they thought about whether or not he needed stitches -- Amy (the horse-rider) was still out on the trails -- her husband, said, "yup, you need stitches, let me see if I can find Amy's kit, we probably have some sutures around here somewhere, I can sew that right up for you" :)  Well, he couldn't find Amy's stuff, so we ended up getting ready to sit for a while in an Urgent Care ... All is well now, Dean is stitched up, he has his pain meds, he has his antibiotics, and he can take the rest of the week off.  The doctor who sewed him up said, "hmmmm, looks like hamburger" :)

Happy New Year bloggers -- see I am trying to be a good blogger this year!

1:52... same run as last week, but I added on some trails, because, like, who wouldn't? :)

I know, here it is only the 5th of January, and already, my new "keep up with blogging" New Year's resolution is amiss.  I blame it on Dean, and Ben and Jerry's (B&J was on sale, Dean bought some, even though it has been banned from the house for the past 3 months).  It is sort of the type of drug that makes me not want to participate in society, and, I have heard, it is a gateway treat.  A little B&J and the next thing you know, you are laying on the couch eating Nacho's Bel Grande, and Cheeto's.

Happy Sunday!

AM: 8.5  including ... dadatada ... 10x:45 with 1` recovery -- a fartlek 10 x 200 workout.  YEA!  My drugs are working, my knee, my back, and my feet are better -- yes!  whooppee.  Can you tell I am happy?  What is a little hairloss when you can run?

PM: 4 miles easy.

AM: 10 miles - no watch.  I wanted to make sure to go really easy on this run ... it was not as "easy peasy" as yesterday, but it felt really good at the end :)

PM: easy 4.

1:54:32.  Longer route than last week, mainly because I ran a few more loops of trail.  Still probably not 14 miles, but likely either last weekends route was short or this one is longer.  Not worried, just running lots of hills, with varied terrian, and enjoying the weather!

AM: 9 miles - 1:17:xx.  Ran the last 20` hard.  Time from "landmark" was 18:54 out and 15:13 back!  I figure it was about 7:35 pace.  So fun!

Easy run ...

Drove up to Phoenix to see our therapist, John.  He said I needed to get regular massage again. My back pain is likely originating in the joint of my greater trochantor (not good, because it is likely the arthritis) -- he worked me over, I could bend over and get about 2 inches from my toes after he was finished (I could only get to my knees before -- that is pretty bad!).

Felt much better afterward, even though I am covered in bruises :)

AM: easy 10 -- ok, I won't lie, it wasn't easy.  It was hilly, it wasn't really fun -- but, the weather was perfect (45F and sunny) -- and I really can't complain :)

Super early, hilly run.  Cold, by Tucson standards .... Very glad it is Friday, it has been another looong week at work.  This job is pretty tough, I will admit.

Have a great weekend bloggers!!

Took zula (the cat) to the vet, we are having "litter box issues".  She may have colitis, we will try drugs and a new diet before resorting to "retraining" which won't be fun for anyone.

2:17:23.  Two loop trails near the Gilbert Ray campground.  No long hills, just uneaven footing and lots of short little hills.  Happy to feel as good as I did!!

Great racing today, both by fast running bloggers, and elites!

Special shout out to our own JakeK and Riley Cook who ran in the USA 1/2 marathon championships!!

I am so busy -- I barely got all my runs in this week.  Sorry bloggers, I miss you so much!

The summary here -- it is warmer than usual -- it might be the second warmest winter on record. While some of you freezing people may think this is good, we  miss our rain, and chill, of the wintertime :)

I hope you all run safe, fast, and are enjoying whatever weather you are experiencing :)

Partially my usual run -- with about 45 mins of trail running thrown in -- it was busy busy busy out on the trails.  There was some sort of mountain biking "event" going on (I asked someone what it was, and they said, "free hot dogs and beer" -- so there you go :).  I did not mind (like I might normally mind) that the bikes interrupted the "flow" of my run - it was a nice day, I was running easy anyway - and everyone was super nice.  Plus, it really only affected about 2 miles of my run.

Happy week bloggers!

oh bloggers, I am having some drug reactions and am bloated up like a person who has just won a hot-dog eating contest ... eeeek, don't even get me started with my cankles.  EEEE!

I just focused on getting the run done, and did not worry about doing a work-out.  some days, well, that is the best you can do!

AM: 10 miles - easy peasy (1:29:21).  Feeling better (meaning I don't feel like swollen beachball) - I had to stop taking my NSAID ... I am going to start supplementing my methotrexate with a curcumin supplement.  Curcumin is a molecule found in the spice tumeric and is supposed to have anti-inflammatory properties.  Dean is actually working on a clinical trial for people with rheumatoid arthritis (also on methotrexate).  It is worth a shot ... have I told you all how much I hate taking all these darn medicines?! yikes, I have to keep a list in my wallet.

Anyway -- back to running.  It was a very pleasant run :)
