Personal:

45 year old female, running for 4 years. No children but a wonderful boyfriend, Dean, 2 dogs and a cat. Faculty at the U, my office is right on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail -- I am loving it! Currently running about 50-55 mpw, had a year hiatus from racing because of surgery, but have been running consistant base mileage since about March 2007. Coached by Greg McMillan.

57:12 -- probably about 6 1/4 miles with extra run to bathroom (today is my lucky day because I actually made it to the bathroom at Liberty Park instead of finding a spot on the way!) .  I feel pretty good today - although my stride looked/felt particulary choppy (not the long, graceful, flowing stride I am going for ;-) ).  My goal for Thursday is to at least feel as good as I did in February (at the SLTC 10K).  Although it is a training run and I know I won't be close to my PR, I would at least like to think I got some benefit from my winter training and the past month or so.  With our upcoming move I will probably actually be focusing on the PF Chang's 1/2 marathon as my next "key" race, but I will be running the Top of Utah 1/2 and some cross-country races in Tucson this fall as workouts.  I am looking forward to participating in Des News - and looking forward to seeing some of you bloggers there and having spectacular races!

Yeah! I'm so glad you're doing PF Chang's. I have never done the half, but it's a great race. I'll be there, doing the full (BQ!), and I think Michelle and Josse are running it too. Good luck this week!

Bonnie, how are you on the downhill? I think a PR is coming for you on thursday. You have been training hard. Hey, lineup towards the very front of the race, it is hard to have a good first mile if your stuck in the crowd.

Stay Kool, run smooth and fast, B of BS Rools out (43:42 is my prediction)

From Kim on Jul 22, 2008 at 17:05:38

Yeah for your lucky day! Hope there are more of them where that came from! :)

Good luck Thursday! It will be a fun day of reading race reports!

Hi Shauna, it will be so fun to have that many people there that we "know". I am sure that you and I will meet beforehand ... I think we will need to do a long run together once we get to Tucson.

Hi Brent - downhills (like this) scare me a bit, so I don't think a PR is in the works. When I ran my 44:47 I was in much better shape "speed-wise" - I have been running more miles, so I am hoping this will translate into some good stamina, but I don't think a sub 44 is in the cards right now ... but I appreciate your faith in me!! If you would have seen how horrible my stride was this morning you might reassess! Honestly, I would just feel good if I can run an honest pace the last 2 miles. Let's try to get together next week some morning!

Bonnie, good luck tomorrow! You may do very well, don't write yourself off! You never know - check my blog entry about my daughter's swim last weekend - surprises are possible when you work hard and want it badly enough!

From Bonnie on Jul 23, 2008 at 11:59:24

Hi Maria,

Nice to hear from you!

I don't think I am actually writing myself off, but I do know my training and my focus lately has not been on the 10K - and this is not a key race for me. I like the focus and training that jumping into races gives me, but I do have to be realistic about my expectations right now. This is a downhill course and the first couple of miles actually are so downhill that it makes me nervous, the race is not important enough to me to scream downhill and hurt myself (or not be able to train for a week). If this were a race I had trained for maybe, but not for a training race.

I have been checking your blog to see how your daughter did, I can't wait to read it!!!

Good Luck tomorrow. I will be running this race also. Brent's advice is right on. The last time I ran this I started in the middle and spent the first mile weaving in and out of runners. I hope you have a great race.
