Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (14 miles, 1:53:50). 28:05wu/25:28cd, 8 mile Steady State run (target 7:16-7:30).  I really did not expect to hit the target for this run, it is the first stamina workout I have done in nearly 5 months.  And, I knew I was not in as good of shape as I was last March when I did this workout (after coming off an awesome 10K training cycle).  I will admit I was also a little intimidated with the sheer length of the run ... so, I decided to take it really easy and just run close to 7:35 pace with the primary goal being to finish the workout ...

actual paces: 7:32, 7:19, 7:30, 7:32, 7:30, 7:32, 7:26, 7:21

The first 4 miles I was getting harassed by about 20 high-school kids who were walking around the track.  They would wait until I came up on them and run and stand right next to each other and force me out into lane 5.  Finally, a few of them quit doing it and tried to give me some space, but at least 6 of them continued to torment me until they left ... it was nice to be able to run in lane one for the final 4 miles.  After this I had to run the brutal uphill home ... I was tired ... I am tired ... now I have to go to work and finish a paper that is 4 days late!

Just as a comparison, last March I ran this same workout in: 7:32, 7:25, 7:16, 7:18, 7:25, 7:20, 7:19, 7:14 .... given that I am still 2 months out from my next race, I am still a little hopeful that even if I don't PR I won't be too far out from my fitness from last year (hope hope).

PM: 4 miles super easy.

Have a good day bloggers!!

Wow! Great mileage! I notice that you run a lot of miles (news to you, I know. Even with all the time off for your injury last year you still ran over 3,100 miles. Good pace today also.

Good luck catching up at work.

Hi JD! I think I was under 3,000 for the year this year; first, I did not train for any marathons so mileage wasn't as high as last year, and second the injury put me out for a while. That said, my "mileage" is an estimate anyway -- I run by time and estimate that I run 9 min/mile. Some days I might run slower than that, some days faster -- I expect that these days I run a little faster than 9 min/mile since I have been using that as an estimate for 4 years now and I know my race times have dropped in that time.

Regarding training, I have been with my coach for about 8 years now, and we have tried a lot of different things. I happen to be the type of person who responds to high mileage, although there are many people who respond more to different other types of training. My coach coaches an elite group of athletes and even though some of them are training for the same race they don't all do exactly the same training. Greg calls me a Lydiard runner (http://lydiardfoundation.org/pdfs/al_lecture.pdf) I just like to run a lot of easy miles and do a couple of cycle-specific workouts to find my pace. But I run pretty darn slow on my easy days, I assure you, that is why I don't run with other people much, I like to just run what I feel (except in my workouts when I use Greg's calculator as a guide www.mcmillanrunning.com. I have been able to run like this for many years, with only one major injury (this year). Given my age, I am extremely thankful!!

When are you going to race again? I am going to the Stump Jump 50K (in Tennessee) in 2012 for my 50th birthday - you should come too!!!

From JD on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 17:58:01 from 70.96.78.149

Oops, I don't know where I got 3,100. But given your 9mm designation for all your runs, I'm sure your actual mileage is higher than estimated. You have good discipline to follow coaching/training plans so well.

I'm registered for the Ogden marathon in May. I MIGHT do one of the runs (25k, 50k, 50 mile) at the Buffalo run on Antelope Island in March. Otherwise no plans. Just going to see how my body holds up to more mileage this year. Lots of easy miles ahead.

Stump Jump looks cool. What draws you all the way to Tennessee?

I lived there for 7 years ... still have a lot of friends there -- another woman my age actually so I am trying to talk her into running it with me (but so far she is against wearing the "birthday girl" tiarra, or "old women rule" hat while we do it).

Good run today! I'm impressed with your stamina. Maybe your pace was slower because of the jerky kids. I hate jerky kids.

Have you redone all of the work that you lost, or are you still working (or really reworking, I guess) to get it back? I hope you're out of the stress hole that the robbery caused you!

From Bonnie on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 18:19:48 from 128.196.228.134

Hi Tracy, I am "almost" done -- probably will finish up today (if I stay off the blog ;-)). Then I need to get ready for the next semester -- classes start next Wednesday, YIKES!

From Tracy on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 18:20:52 from 173.23.75.96

Ha ha. Get to work. Now I'm just distracting you. I guess I'm just a jerky kid.

Mr. Slick -- your comment made me laugh! Very cool, it is not very often I get a "yo girl"! But a "whazzzup" back at ya! I would comment on your blog, but all you have are mileage, if you want more wisenheimer (or serious) comments you will have to write more details... thanks for the comment though, I am feeling it this morning.
