10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

easy 4 without a watch.  I am in reverse taper mode this week -- undecided about one more race before going back to base for the summer.  I will wait and see how I feel this week.  I am pretty happy with results from this year ... and looking forward to training for a Winter marathon.

I am so worried and sad for all my friends in Nashville ... I can't tell you how many of them have had substantial damage (perhaps even lost) their homes ... and it is going to get worse today when the Cumberland river crests.   Many of them have forgotten about the horrible Country Music Marathon fiasco now ... though that was disappointing as well.

On happier news, a new American record in the mens 10K (26:59) congratulations Chris Solinsky!  And Galen Rupp (27:10) - since the old record was 27:13 (Meb Keflzighi).  What a great meet on the "short" track at Stanford!

Another thing I did not blog about, yet, was my incredible lunch with KungFuBlond and youngKFB.  It was so awesome.  We talked and ate these incredible salads for over 2 1/2 hours!  it completely made my day, my weekend and my race.  I believe we will be fast friends forever (FFFs) now.  I might have pictures soon - I had brought my camera with me, just to get a picture of them, but then I forgot it when I left the hotel.  My list of "bloggers I have met" is growing!

I have many friends in Nashville as well. The devastation is unreal and more is coming. My company's yearly conference which is HUGE is there this year and we've already been notified that the hotel (the Gaylord) has flooded. The conference is in 1 month, so everyone is freaking out about rebooking, etc.

I have been meaning to ask you... Which do you think is harder to run in? The HOT Arizona dry heat (like 110*) or the humid Alabama/Tennessee heat (like 95*)?

From Bonnie on Mon, May 03, 2010 at 15:53:05 from 128.196.228.134

I was thinking of you this morning too KP, I knew it was likely to affect you guys too. I already know a couple of people who have lost pretty much everything ...

I think that in general it was tougher to run in the Nashville humidity -- it is much more uncomfortable. However, the heat here lasts for a LONG time, and having lows of 80 and highs of over 110 (last summer we had highs of 115-116 for over 2 weeks) for 2 or 3 months just really gets to you after a while, it is just oppressively hot all the time.

Also, I think it is a little more dangerous to run in high dry temps, because you don't realize how dehydrated you are getting - in Nashville I was always a sticky mess on my runs, so I remembered to drink more - sometimes I don't realize it here until I am already near the danger zone (headache, cramps, dizzy, etc).

Can I just say that I'm so glad you came to meet me before you met the Monte clan? When I heard you were going to meet them I was so jealous. Is that bad?

From Bonnie on Mon, May 03, 2010 at 18:21:07 from 128.196.228.134

ha ha ha ... it is not bad Burt, but it is ummmmm, what is the word I am looking for? ummmmm ... it is very "Burt" of you ;-)

It was by design Burt, by design.

What winter marathon are you considering? CIM?

From Bonnie on Tue, May 04, 2010 at 12:38:29 from 64.119.33.134

Hi Sno, CIM is on my list, although I was also considering Houston or Huntsville - it kind of depends how busy work is this fall, I probably want it as late in the winter as possible (January would be perfect -- maybe even February). Are you "planning" your winter plans yet??

From runnerjeffaz on Tue, May 04, 2010 at 18:29:40 from 67.139.11.114

what happened at the CMM? I ran that a few times, normally a great race, did they have issues this year?

From Bonnie on Tue, May 04, 2010 at 18:51:08 from 128.196.228.134

It was so sad. They had a huge storm (tornado warnings that ended up touching down in Mississippi and killing 2 people) so anyone on the marathon course that was running near 4 hours for the marathon at that point got diverted to the 1/2 marathon - then there were others that were somewhere between miles 20 and 21 that were diverted to a 20.4 and 22.2 mile course. People were bussed for their safety to LP stadium to take cover while the storm system passed.

There were some disappointed folks. That race has been plagued for years with bad weather, it is just not a good time for a marathon in Tennessee -- there was some 'rumor' going around once that they would switch the dates for CMM and the Tom King 1/2, but I am not sure if that conflicts with another RnR race or what.

From Snoqualmie on Tue, May 04, 2010 at 18:55:35 from 166.205.140.83

I'll be deciding on CIM by late summer.
